Nine months after his tragic death, Hollywood actor and filmmaker Rob Reiner has been honoured with a posthumous Emmy Award for his guest performance in FX’s The Bear.
Reiner won the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series award, which was announced on Sunday, September 6, during the Creative Arts Emmys ceremony held in downtown Los Angeles.
The Hollywood veteran, renowned for directing classic films such as The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, This Is Spinal Tap and Misery, received a standing ovation from those in attendance as presenters accepted the award on his behalf.
Reiner and his wife of four decades, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead at their Brentwood, Los Angeles, home in December 2025. Their son, Nick Reiner, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and has pleaded not guilty.
In The Bear, Reiner appeared in the fourth season as Albert Schnur, a benevolent business consultant.
He competed in the guest actor category alongside Michael J. Fox and Brett Goldstein for Shrinking, Hamish Linklater for Widow’s Bay, Christopher McDonald for Hacks and Connor Storrie for Saturday Night Live.
The award marks Reiner’s first acting Emmy since his previous victory 48 years ago for his portrayal of Michael “Meathead” Stivic in the CBS sitcom All in the Family.
His latest win also set a new record for the longest gap between acting Emmy victories, surpassing the previous 37-year record held by his father, Carl Reiner, who won in 1958 for Caesar’s Hour and again in 1995 for Mad About You.
