Olalekan Ajagungbade, an ally of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, has reportedly been shot dead in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
Ajagungbade, popularly known as “Emir” in political circles, was reportedly lured to a motor park in Ile-Ife under the guise of attending a meeting. Upon his arrival, he was allegedly shot in the head.
The deceased was reportedly seeking to take control of some motor parks in the state from Nurudeen Alowonle, the current leader of commercial drivers in Osun State, according to Daily Trust.
His killing reportedly sparked tension in parts of the state, prompting Governor Adeleke to direct the Osun State Police Command to identify, track down and arrest those responsible for the incident.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor ordered all warring groups to immediately vacate the motor parks and directed the establishment of a Park Management System with immediate effect.
Adeleke called for calm among residents and directed security agencies to restore normalcy at the affected motor parks while ensuring the maintenance of law and order across the state.
The governor also said he would issue an Executive Order to formally establish the Park Management System as part of measures to restore discipline, orderliness and proper administration across motor parks in Osun State.
