A housewife, Ifeoma Okafor, appeared before a Senior Magistrate’s Court in Gwagwalada, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), on Friday for allegedly threatening to kill her husband with a knife.
According to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the defendant, who resides behind ECWA Goodnews Church in Gwagwalada, Abuja, is facing charges of criminal intimidation and mischief.
The prosecutor, Abdulahi Tanko, informed the court that the complainant, Mr. Paul Okafor — who lives at the same address — reported the incident to the police on June 6.
Tanko alleged that on June 1, the defendant knocked on the complainant’s door, and upon opening it, he found her holding a knife. She allegedly threatened to kill him and also threatened to stab herself following a domestic dispute.
The prosecutor further claimed that the defendant damaged one of the complainant’s window louvers, with the cost of the damage yet to be determined.
The charges are said to contravene Sections 396 and 326 of the Penal Code.
Ifeoma Okafor pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Presiding over the matter, Senior Magistrate Munir Sani granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦500,000, with two sureties.
The magistrate specified that the first surety must be a biological relative of the defendant and must reside within the court’s jurisdiction. The first surety is also required to present a valid National Identity Card or driver’s licence, while the second surety must submit a bank statement showing funds equivalent to the bail amount.
