In a historic development, the Adamawa Assembly appoints its first female majority leader.

In a notable development within the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Kate Mamuno Raymond, the representative of Demsa constituency, has been appointed as the majority leader. As the sole female legislator among the 25 members of the Assembly, her appointment holds significant importance. The Speaker of the Assembly, Bathiya Wesley, announced this decision during the Assembly’s session on Monday, June 26, 2023.

In addition to Kate Mamuno’s appointment, Wesley also declared Jingi Belel, the representative of Maiha constituency, as the Deputy Majority Leader. Meanwhile, Suleiman Alkali, the legislator from Yola North constituency, assumed the role of the Minority Leader. It is worth noting that Suleiman Alkali belongs to the primary opposition party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

With the Assembly consisting of 16 members from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and 9 members from the APC, various recent appointments have taken place. On June 13, Barthiya Wesley, the representative of Hong constituency, was elected as the Speaker of the Assembly, and Buba Mohammed Jijiwa from Jada Mbulo constituency was chosen as the Deputy Speaker.
