The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has strongly criticized the recent actions of renowned Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde—popularly known as KWAM 1—stating that his behavior at a Nigerian airport could be classified as an act of terrorism in many parts of the world.

Speaking during an interview on Arise TV, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mike Achimugu, addressed the incident in which the singer allegedly disrupted a scheduled ValueJet flight, preventing it from taking off.

“Your first responsibility at the airport is to respect and obey instructions from officials on the ground,” Achimugu said. “What he did—in most climes—is considered terrorism. You cannot stop an aircraft from taking off. There is no justification for that.”

The NCAA has launched a full investigation into how Ayinde was able to access a restricted area at the airport where the disruption occurred. The inquiry will involve key agencies including the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Aviation Security Services (AVSEC), and the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).

“Was the pilot cleared by air traffic control to take off, and if so, was it safe to proceed under the circumstances?” Achimugu asked. “All these questions will be addressed during the investigation.”

The incident took place during a ValueJet flight (VK201) on August 7. Following the disruption, the NCAA formally petitioned the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Inspector-General of Police, alleging that Ayinde’s actions were in violation of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations.

As a result, KWAM 1 has been placed on a no-fly list pending the outcome of the investigation.
