At least two people have died and several others were injured after a plane crashed into an airport hangar in Australia, triggering a fire.
A pilot and a passenger were killed when a light aircraft struck the building at Parafield Airport in Adelaide, South Australia.
Emergency services responded quickly to the scene, where thick plumes of smoke could be seen from miles away. According to 7News, about 11 workers inside the hangar suffered serious burns and were taken to hospital.
The pilot and passenger were pronounced dead at the scene following the crash, which occurred at around 2:10 p.m. local time on Wednesday, April 29.
Authorities fear the number of casualties could rise, as it remains unclear how many people were inside the aircraft or the building at the time. Student pilots were among those rescued from the hangar.
Officials confirmed the aircraft involved was a Diamond DA41 Twin Star.
Residents in nearby areas have been advised to stay indoors due to the smoke, with fire services warning anyone experiencing breathing difficulties to seek medical attention.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) has launched an investigation into the crash involving the twin-engine aircraft.
