The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man, Shafiu Dahiru, for allegedly killing his three-day-old baby at Unguwan Lasa in Soba Local Government Area.
According to sources who spoke with security analyst Zagazola Makama, the suspect is said to have strangled the infant, born to his 25-year-old wife, Hadiza Shafiu. Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and his patrol team promptly responded, rushing the baby to a hospital where a medical doctor confirmed the child was deceased.
Police authorities stated that the motive behind the tragic incident remains unclear. The suspect is currently in custody as investigations continue.
At the family’s request, the baby’s remains were released for burial according to Islamic rites, foregoing a post-mortem examination.
The case will be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a discreet and thorough investigation.
