A 32-year-old man, Rasaq Gafar, was arraigned on Wednesday, August 6, before the Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for allegedly threatening the life of Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun on July 12.
Gafar faces charges including threat to kill, threat to life, and breach of peace.
Prosecutor Matthew Ojei informed the court that Gafar used social media to send threatening messages against the governor and behaved in a manner likely to disturb public peace.
The offences were said to contravene Sections 249(D) and 323 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
Upon hearing the charges, the accused pleaded not guilty. His lawyer, Marvelous Ojeleye, requested the court to grant bail on liberal terms.
Chief Magistrate Olabisi Ogunkanmi granted bail set at N2.5 million, with two sureties of the same amount. She specified that one surety must own landed property, while the other should be a blood relative of the defendant.
The court adjourned the case until November 13 for further hearing.
