The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has shut down an illegal herbal medicine production facility in Kaduna State.
The facility, known as SHIFA’UNNUR, is situated in Mararaba Jos, Igabi Local Government Area. Mr. Shamsuddeen Mani, Principal Regulatory Officer of NAFDAC who led the operation, revealed that the plant was sealed for operating without registration and failing to meet the minimum operational standards, in clear violation of regulatory requirements.
“We acted promptly on credible intelligence to crack down on this illegal herbal medicine facility in Mararaba Jos. It is deeply concerning that all the equipment found in the unhygienic and concealed setup were substandard. These products pose serious health risks because their safety, quality, and efficacy cannot be assured,” Mani stated.
He also disclosed that unregistered products valued at N5 million were confiscated and will be destroyed. The facility remains sealed as investigations continue. Mani stressed that NAFDAC, empowered by law to protect public health, will persistently target offenders and enforce compliance with regulations.
