Kevin De Bruyne’s representatives have reportedly held initial discussions with Serie A leaders Napoli regarding a potential free transfer this summer.
The 33-year-old midfielder is set to become a free agent at the end of the season, with his current contract at Manchester City expiring and no extension on the table. Last month, De Bruyne confirmed that City’s director of football, Txiki Begiristain, and CEO, Ferran Soriano, had informed him that the club would not be renewing his deal.
According to *The Times*, Napoli have already made contact with De Bruyne’s camp as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of next season, where they are guaranteed a spot in the Champions League and are closing in on the Serie A title.
The Italian club is reportedly hopeful that De Bruyne’s close friendship with fellow Belgian international Romelu Lukaku—currently on loan at Napoli—could help sway his decision. De Bruyne has expressed a desire to remain at the highest level of competition while also considering what is best for his family.
“Honestly, I still think I can perform at this level like I’m showing, but I understand that clubs have to make decisions,” De Bruyne said last month. “I’m open to anything because I have to look at the whole picture—sporting reasons, family, and what makes the most sense.”
In addition to Napoli, *Sky Sports* reports that Aston Villa have also shown interest, while MLS side Chicago Fire—who hold priority rights—have been linked with a potential move.
This season, De Bruyne has featured in 36 matches across all competitions for City, scoring six goals and providing eight assists. Over his decorated career at the Etihad, he has won six Premier League titles, a Champions League, and five League Cups. He could yet end his time at City with a third FA Cup, as the club prepares to face Crystal Palace in the final on May 17.
