A Nigerian pilgrim has passed away on the plains of Arafat while observing the Hajj pilgrimage in the holy land.

The Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Prof. Abdullahi Saleh Usman, confirmed the incident to journalists shortly after a national prayer session organized by the commission.

“We received the sad news that we lost one of our pilgrims today in Arafat. Another pilgrim had also passed away before we departed Mecca,” he stated.

Prof. Usman clarified that the death was due to natural causes and not related to the heatwave, as some had speculated.

In accordance with NAHCON’s policy, the identity of the deceased is being withheld until the family has been formally notified.
