Nigeria’s Super Falcons have held firm at 36th place in the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings, following their triumphant performance at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, where they secured a record-extending 10th title.
The updated rankings were published on FIFA’s official website on Thursday, August 7.
While the Super Falcons remain Africa’s top-ranked team, WAFCON 2024 runners-up Morocco are now third on the continent and have slipped to 64th globally.
Former champions Banyana Banyana of South Africa maintained their 54th spot worldwide and hold second place in Africa. Ghana’s Black Queens, who finished third at WAFCON, dropped to 67th in the global rankings.
Cameroon and Ivory Coast also fell to 66th and 71st positions, respectively, due to the absence of official matches during the ranking period.
Mali, Algeria, and Senegal complete Africa’s top 10, with Algeria and Senegal making significant gains by rising 14.79 and 12.6 points, respectively.
Botswana was Africa’s biggest mover, climbing seven places to 146th globally after earning 32.15 additional points despite narrow losses to Algeria, Nigeria, and Tunisia at WAFCON.
On the global stage, Spain reclaimed the top spot in the FIFA rankings following their strong run to the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 final, edging out the United States by a small margin. France rose four places to sixth, while Brazil slipped to seventh despite retaining their South American crown.
FIFA noted that 196 international matches were played during this ranking window, influencing changes across all confederations.
The next FIFA Women’s World Ranking update is scheduled for December 11, 2025.
