The former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, declared on February 27 that he has returned to the office and reassumed his role as Speaker.

Obasa made the announcement after stepping into the Assembly for the first time since his impeachment on January 13.

“I’ve resumed and I remain the Speaker of the Assembly,” Obasa stated, making his return to the Assembly complex on Thursday morning, accompanied by Police and State Security Service operatives.

Obasa was removed from office on January 13 by a significant majority of lawmakers and replaced by Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, who became the first female Speaker of the Lagos Assembly.
