Politicians Promising One-Term Tenure Need Psychiatric Evaluation – Governor Soludo

Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has stated that any politician pledging to serve only one term in office should undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

Speaking at the Anambra South endorsement rally in support of his second-term bid, Soludo dismissed one-term promises as unrealistic and misleading. He challenged proponents of the idea to cite any instance where it has been successfully implemented, adding that Nigeria’s Constitution clearly provides for two terms in office.

“How can anybody with a functioning brain… you think you’re talking to fools? You come and say, ‘I will do only one term.’ Any politician who says that should be sent to a psychiatric home because something must be wrong mentally,” Soludo said.

His remarks come shortly after former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi declared that he would be willing to serve a single term and hand over power to the North in 2031 if such an arrangement emerged from a coalition. Obi said his decision would be guided by character and integrity, not personal ambition.
