Governor Umar Bago of Niger State has ordered the immediate closure of Badeggi FM, a privately owned radio station in Minna, citing allegations of inciting violence and broadcasting unethical content.
The directive was issued on Friday, August 1, during a meeting with All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders at the Government House in Minna. According to a statement signed by Bologi Ibrahim, the governor’s chief press secretary, Bago accused the station of persistently airing content that fuels unrest and promotes opposition to the state government.
“The governor also accused the station’s owner of inciting the public against the government and directed that the station’s license be revoked,” the statement said.
Governor Bago further instructed the commissioner for homeland security and the state police commissioner to shut down the station and investigate its owner, Shuaibu Badeggi, for allegedly using the platform to incite violence.
Badeggi FM 90.1, launched in 2020, operates as a private radio station in Minna, the capital of Niger State.
