Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Policy Communication, has claimed that several close associates of 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi are in discussions to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking during an interview on TVC on Monday, May 6, Bwala revealed that one of Obi’s key aides has already defected to the APC, while another is actively engaged in talks with party leadership. He also noted that one of Obi’s media spokespersons has shown interest in switching allegiance to the ruling party.

“Governors are joining our party independently, but what’s more significant is that key figures from the last presidential election are also coming in,” Bwala said. “One of Peter Obi’s handlers is already with us, and another is currently in discussions. Even one of his media spokesmen is considering it.”

Bwala emphasized that these defections are not motivated by financial incentives, but rather by a shared belief in the direction of the Tinubu administration.

“No one is giving them money. They’re coming because, while we’re not perfect, they see that our heart is in the right place, our head is clear, and we are working to build a national consensus,” he added.
