President Bola Tinubu has lauded Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), for his outstanding efforts in revitalizing Abuja’s infrastructure, urging him to remain focused and disregard criticism from “busybodies.”

The President made this statement on Tuesday, June 10, during the official reopening of the renovated International Conference Centre (ICC) in Abuja—now renamed the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre.

Commending Wike’s leadership, Tinubu said:
“You represent us as a people of character, determination, and great spirit. I am pleased to see you reflect these qualities. Ignore the busybodies and bystanders; no matter what they say, keep up your excellent work. You are a transformational leader with the foresight and determination to succeed. Thank you very much.”

Reflecting on his earlier visit to the ICC during a session of the ECOWAS Parliament, Tinubu recalled his disappointment with the state of the facility at the time, describing it as “dirty, disorganised, [and]uninhabitable.”

“I turned to Wike and said, ‘This conference centre is not reflecting who we are. Have we sunk this low?’ He assured me that it would be transformed—and today, I am very happy with the result,” the President said.

The event marked not only the completion of a key infrastructure project but also a moment of recognition for Wike’s role in driving visible change in the capital city.
