Real Madrid president, Perez angry as Vinicius demands Mbappe’s salary

Vinicius Junior’s future at Real Madrid has been thrown into doubt after negotiations over a new contract reportedly hit a standstill, leaving the Brazilian forward heading into the final year of his current deal.

Only a year ago, both the player and the club were widely expected to reach an agreement without major obstacles, with confidence from those close to the negotiations that a renewal was only a matter of time.

However, reports now suggest the two parties have drifted apart. According to Spanish outlet Sport, one of the key stumbling blocks is Vinicius’ reported request for a €15 million signing bonus, a demand Real Madrid are unwilling to meet.

The report also claims the club are signalling their long-term plans by pursuing RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, who shares the same agency as Vinicius.

Both players are represented by Roc Nation, with the agency expected in Madrid on Monday to finalise the details of Diomande’s proposed €120 million transfer to the Spanish club. Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez had previously referenced that transfer fee during his election campaign.

While Diomande’s move is reportedly close to completion, Vinicius’ contract situation remains unresolved, with no agreement yet reached between the club and the 25-year-old over an extension. The uncertainty comes at a time of significant transition at the Santiago Bernabéu.
