Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs to be sentenced tomorrow

Music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs is scheduled to be sentenced on Friday, October [insert date], following his conviction for transporting individuals across state lines to engage in prostitution.

Federal prosecutors are requesting a sentence of at least 11 years and three months. Combs’ legal team, however, has urged Judge Arun Subramanian to impose no more than 14 months—just slightly longer than the time he has already served since his arrest in September 2024.

Combs, 55, was acquitted of more serious charges, including sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy, after an eight-week trial. Still, legal experts say he faces significant prison time.

“I don’t think he’s getting the 11 years that the government is recommending,” former federal prosecutor Neama Rahmani told PEOPLE. “That’s more than the statutory maximum for the prostitution charges.”

Each count carries a maximum of 10 years, and the Probation Department has recommended a sentence of five to seven years. Rahmani believes the final sentence will likely fall in the four-to-five-year range.

“If the judge were inclined to go easy, he likely would have released him on bail after the verdict,” Rahmani added. “The fact that Combs remains in custody suggests the judge intends to impose a meaningful sentence—likely something in the middle.”

Rahmani also noted that the judge can consider “relevant conduct” beyond the specific charges, including evidence of drug use and violence that emerged during the trial. “Even though he was acquitted of operating a criminal enterprise, the judge may treat this as more than a simple prostitution case,” he said.

Ahead of sentencing, Combs’ ex-girlfriend Casandra “Cassie” Ventura submitted a letter to the court, urging the judge to consider “the many lives that Sean Combs has upended with his abuse and control”—a reference to her own testimony of alleged abuse during their decade-long relationship.
