Multiple people are feared dead following coordinated attacks by suspected herdsmen on communities in Gwer West and Apa Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Benue State on June 2.
Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, confirmed the attacks after a security briefing at the Government House in Makurdi. He stated that 12 people were killed in Apa LGA, while 11 bodies were recovered in Gwer West. Several others who were critically injured are currently receiving treatment in hospitals.
A community leader, Modoom Patrick, reported that many residents are still missing, while others have been displaced and are now taking refuge in a local primary school under police protection.
In addition, 16 more people were reportedly killed in separate attacks on Edikwu and Ankpali communities, also in Apa LGA.

State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Udeme Edet, confirmed the incidents and said a tactical team has been deployed to the affected areas to restore order.
Benue State has experienced repeated attacks in recent years, often blamed on suspected herders, resulting in widespread displacement and loss of lives.
