Dr. Umar Abdulahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), emphasized that the only path to ending the marginalization of the South-East is by aligning with the ruling party. Speaking at a rally in Nnewi, Anambra State, on Saturday, March 23, Ganduje asserted that joining the ruling party is crucial for the political liberation of the South-East.

Reflecting on past political dynamics, Ganduje highlighted the commitment of the South-East to the ruling party during Shehu Shagari’s administration. He noted that due to this allegiance, there was strong consideration for Alex Ekwueme, a son of the South-East, to succeed Shagari as president.

Ganduje shared, “You know, when your brother, Alex Ekwueme, served as vice president to our brother, Shehu Shagari, there was a sense of unity. The potential for Ekwueme to ascend to the presidency was evident. However, due to unforeseen circumstances such as the military coup, this opportunity was thwarted.”

He underscored the significance of aligning with the ruling party, emphasizing that once the South-East embraces this approach, marginalization will be a thing of the past. Ganduje’s remarks aimed to encourage political engagement and unity within the South-East while advocating for active participation in national governance through alignment with the ruling party.
