
Two personnel of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, have been killed after suspected criminals ambushed them in Akure North Local Government Area of the state.
The incident reportedly occurred as the officers were leaving their base in the Ago-Oyinbo farming area around Ala-Daadaa, where they were carrying out security operations.
The attackers allegedly launched a surprise assault, resulting in a fierce exchange of gunfire. Two officers, identified as Oniyide Raifi, popularly known as Soldier, and Adebusuyi Kayode, aka Omega, were fatally wounded, while another officer sustained injuries.
Following the attack, the Amotekun Corps deployed reinforcements to the area to track down the assailants and prevent their escape.
The Corps also intensified patrols and intelligence gathering in the affected communities to identify those responsible and prevent further attacks.
Confirming the incident, the Ondo Amotekun spokesperson, Jimoh Adeniken, said the officers came under sudden attack, leading to a gun battle. He confirmed that two personnel were killed and another injured.
Adeniken said the Corps was working with other security agencies to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
He added that the Ondo State Government, the Corps Commander and Amotekun management had expressed condolences to the families and colleagues of the fallen officers, describing them as gallant personnel who paid the ultimate price in service to the state.
The Corps urged residents to remain calm and vigilant and provide credible information that could assist security agencies in apprehending the attackers.
Meanwhile, the families of the deceased officers commended the Ondo State Government and Amotekun management for making arrangements for their burial.
The families also appealed to the government to consider the dependants of the fallen officers in future Amotekun recruitment exercises and provide welfare support to help cushion the loss of their breadwinners.
The Amotekun command reiterated its commitment to tracking down the perpetrators and strengthening security operations in the affected.
