Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, has said supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027 could help pave the way for an Igbo presidency in the future.

Soludo, who spoke in Igbo at a recent event, urged the South-East to support Tinubu, arguing that such a move could encourage other regions to back an Igbo presidential candidate when power eventually returns to the South.

According to the governor, the South currently holds the presidency, with four years remaining in Tinubu’s tenure. He said power would subsequently return to the North before rotating back to the South.

“You have to engage in discussions. Now that it is a Southerner holding the power, it’s remaining four years. It is now left for us (Igbos) to support him so that when it goes to the North and comes back, we can now trust that every southerner and northerner will support us,” Soludo said.

The governor also advocated for power rotation, stressing that political opportunities should be extended to different groups.

He further dismissed any intention to seek a third term as governor, saying leadership positions should provide opportunities for others to rise.

“What am I vying for? I’ve gotten a governorship position; will I go for a third term? Everyone must be given the opportunity to be able to rise,” he added.
