Hundreds of supporters from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Katsina State have officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by state coalition leader Mustapha Inuwa.

The announcement was made during the unveiling of the Katsina State chapter of the ADC, held on Sunday, July 13, at the Continental Event Center in Katsina. New members from all 34 Local Government Areas were issued membership cards at the event.

Speaking at the gathering, Lawal Batagarawa, National Representative of the National Political Coalition Group in Katsina, criticized the current administration under President Bola Tinubu, highlighting the rise in insecurity, poverty, inflation, and the sharp decline in the Naira’s value. “Many industries have collapsed since 2023,” he lamented, calling for unity among party members to combat terrorism, banditry, poverty, and illiteracy.

Usman Musa Wamba, ADC Chairman in Katsina, expressed optimism about the party’s prospects in the 2027 general elections. He urged young voters and the broader electorate to support the ADC to fully benefit from democratic dividends.

Among the defectors was Aliyu Saulawa, a former APC member and Director of Media for the Buhari Campaign Organisation, who also coordinated the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Movement. Saulawa expressed his disappointment with APC’s failure to deliver on campaign promises, especially in the North. “Without security, there is no livelihood. The Northwest’s farmers and merchants are severely impacted by insecurity and the collapse of the educational system,” he stated. “I can no longer remain in APC.”

Separately, the Katsina PDP chapter, led by 2023 governorship candidate Yakubu Lado, held an expanded caucus meeting themed “Let’s Make Katsina State Work Again” at the party headquarters. Lado aimed to dispel rumors about the party’s decline, affirming, “The PDP structure remains strong in Katsina.”

He blamed the party’s 2023 election loss on the actions of its former leader, saying, “The former leader’s conduct was responsible for our defeat, as many were unhappy with his attitude. The party’s past challenges are well known.”
