Suspected herdsmen have killed a young man named Bem Gube in Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State.

In a heartfelt Facebook post on Monday, July 7, 2025, Bem’s childhood friend, Lazarus Hilejime, shared that Bem was preparing for the ongoing National Examinations Council (NECO) exams before his tragic death.

According to Lazarus, the incident occurred last week when Bem returned to his village and was attacked by roving herders who fatally assaulted him.

“A Painful Goodbye to My Childhood Friend, Bem Gube. I’m deeply heartbroken to share the tragic news of the death of my childhood friend, Bem Gube. We grew up together at Nyor Gyungu near the International Market in Makurdi — sharing dreams, laughter, and struggles,” Lazarus wrote.

“This year, Bem was writing his NECO exams at NAKA, the headquarters of Gwer West LGA. He had so much hope for the future.

“Tragically, on Thursday last week, he visited his village — a place he called home — and was brutally killed by Fulani herdsmen. It’s heartbreaking that such a promising young life was cut short in such a cruel way. Rest in peace, Bem. You will always be remembered.”
