Nigerian rapper Ycee has clarified his stance on the controversial “Olodo uprising” phrase, insisting he neither coined the expression nor intended to insult anyone.
Speaking in a recent interview, the singer said his comments were aimed at highlighting how the obsession with money has reshaped values in Nigerian society, with many people now excusing questionable behaviour simply because it is profitable.
Ycee said his remarks were widely misinterpreted as classist or elitist, largely because many assumed he was highly educated. He, however, dismissed that perception, revealing that his highest academic qualification is a secondary school certificate and that he never obtained a university degree.
The rapper added that he has always enjoyed reading and had hoped to study Computer Science at university, but was unable to secure admission because he did not meet the required admission quota at the time.
