On Monday, January 1, the United Kingdom’s Home Office declared the initiation of its policy prohibiting Nigerian students and other international students from bringing their dependents through the study visa route. This information was conveyed in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

In May 2023, the United Kingdom enacted a law preventing Nigerian students and others studying in the UK from bringing family members as dependents, except in specific circumstances.
