President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr. Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote as the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, making her the first woman to head the institution since its establishment in 1962.

The appointment was announced in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who said it takes effect from January 10, 2026, for a four-year term.

According to the statement, the President’s approval of Dr. Odusote’s appointment “marks a historic milestone for the institution.” The 54-year-old currently serves as the Deputy Director-General and Head of the Lagos Campus of the Nigerian Law School. Her elevation makes her the first female Director-General in the school’s more than six-decade history.

Dr. Odusote will succeed Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, whose eight-year tenure ends on January 9, 2026. She earned her Bachelor of Laws degree from Obafemi Awolowo University and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988. She also obtained a Master of Laws degree from the same university, specialising in company and commercial law, before completing a PhD in Law at the University of Surrey.

Her academic and research interests span public law and the administration of justice. She joined the Nigerian Law School in 2001 as a lecturer and has since risen through the ranks, holding key positions such as Head of the Academic Department, Director of Academics, and Head of Campus. She has also served briefly as a visiting scholar at Nottingham Trent University.

Dr. Odusote has published widely in reputable local and international law journals, presented papers at numerous legal education conferences, and served on committees of both the Council of Legal Education and the Nigerian Bar Association.
