Heung-Min Son has ended his decade-long stint at Tottenham to join Los Angeles FC in a Major League Soccer record transfer worth over £20 million.
The South Korean forward announced his departure during a press conference ahead of Spurs’ pre-season friendly against Newcastle in South Korea, which also marked his final appearance for the club.
In a heartfelt Instagram message to Spurs fans, Son shared:
“How do I find the right words for this? I don’t know. I’ve been thinking for days. It’s impossible. But here I go.
It’s time for me to say goodbye to Tottenham Hotspur, my home for the past ten years. When I arrived in 2015, I didn’t speak English and didn’t know London, but you welcomed me with open arms, believed in me, and stood by me through every high and low.
I was just a boy from Korea with big dreams who was told he had no chance. And now, 10 years later, North London is forever in my heart.
I’ve made lifelong friends here, had the honour of becoming a godfather, and had the privilege of captaining this special club. I’ve poured my heart and soul into Tottenham, making this my hardest decision ever.
I always thought if I were to leave, it would be on my terms, in the best way, after we had achieved our mission together—with pride and honour.”
Son finishes his Spurs career fourth on the club’s all-time scoring list, behind only Harry Kane, Jimmy Greaves, and Bobby Smith.
He scored 173 goals and provided 101 assists in all competitions, including 127 goals and 27 assists across 333 Premier League matches.
