Reports indicate that bandits have claimed the lives of nine traders along the Jibia/Batsari Road in Katsina State.
According to gathered information, the traders were returning home from a local market in Jibia when they encountered the gunmen around 6 p.m. on Sunday, February 11, 2024.
The assailants ambushed the traders who were traveling in two vehicles, which were subsequently set ablaze by the gunmen.
A resident who spoke to Punch on Monday recounted the tragic incident, stating that the gunmen opened fire on the vehicles, resulting in the death of one of the drivers and several traders.
Following the attack, sympathizers transported the victims’ bodies to Jibia General Hospital, where their relatives retrieved them on Monday morning.
As of Monday afternoon, the number of injured traders and those abducted remains unclear.
The Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasiru Muazu, and the spokesperson for the Katsina State Police Command, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, are yet to issue statements regarding the incident.
