A recent poll conducted by Daily Mail suggests that if former US first lady Michelle Obama were to run against Donald Trump in a presidential contest today, she would lose.

Despite never expressing any intention to run for president, and publicly supporting Joe Biden’s reelection bid, there has been speculation among some Democratic party members about Michelle Obama as a potential alternative to the current president.

However, the exclusive DailyMail.com/J.L. Partners poll indicates that Michelle Obama would not fare better than Trump in a hypothetical matchup. The survey of 1000 likely voters revealed that she would lose to the former US leader by three points.

Pollster James Johnson, cofounder of J.L. Partners, commented on the findings, stating, “Some have been touting an emergency parachute for Biden for some time: draft Michelle Obama. But it turns out voters are no more keen to vote for Michelle over Trump than they are for Biden, with Trump beating her overall and even with Independents. It was never very realistic, but this poll puts paid to the idea she can be any kind of saving force for the Democrats.”

J.L. Partners conducted the poll from March 20 to 24, reaching respondents via landline, cellphone, SMS, and apps. The margin of error for the results is +/- 3.1 percent.
