The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has officially transferred the assets and property of Nok University, located in Kachia, Kaduna State, to the Federal Government.

EFCC Chairman Ola Olukayode handed over the university’s documents to the Minister of Education in an event at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima. This follows a Federal High Court ruling in June 2024, which ordered the final forfeiture of the university, previously owned by a private individual.

In response to the court’s decision, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed the Federal Government to take over Nok University and convert it into the Federal University of Applied Sciences. The initiative aims to boost development in Southern Kaduna, a region that has faced challenges due to insecurity.

Vice President Shettima, who spoke at the event with attendance from Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani and other key figures, highlighted that the handover reflects the administration’s dedication to inclusivity and national progress. He commended President Tinubu for prioritizing the university’s transformation, marking it as the first item on the Federal Executive Council’s agenda.

Shettima also acknowledged the efforts of General Martin Luther Agwai (rtd), Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, Justice Kumai Bayang Akaahs, and Senator Sunday Marshall, whose contributions were instrumental in making the transition possible. He confirmed that preparations for the university’s operation are already underway, with the first batch of students expected to be admitted by September 2025.

Governor Sani expressed his gratitude to President Tinubu, calling the creation of the Federal University of Applied Sciences a major milestone for both Kaduna and the nation. He emphasized his administration’s commitment to inclusivity and peaceful coexistence within the state.

EFCC Chairman Olukayode noted that the forfeited assets include academic buildings, a water factory, an international hotel, and an event center. The transfer formalizes the university’s new status under federal control, in line with the Federal Executive Council’s resolution on February 4, 2025.

Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa praised the university’s establishment as a reflection of the administration’s commitment to enhancing Nigeria’s human capital development. He reiterated that education, health, and social welfare are central to President Tinubu’s vision for national progress.

Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Christopher Musa remarked that the development represents a significant moment for Southern Kaduna, acknowledging the President’s commitment to the region. He emphasized that the university will not only benefit Kaduna but will also expand educational opportunities for all Nigerians, contributing to long-term peace in the area.
