United States Initiates Review of 55 Million Foreigners’ Visas Over Potential Breaches

The United States government has announced that it is reviewing the visa records of more than 55 million foreign nationals currently holding valid U.S. visas for possible violations.

According to a statement to the Associated Press, the State Department said that all U.S. visa holders—including tourists—are subject to continuous vetting to determine whether they remain eligible to enter or stay in the country.

If new information emerges indicating that a visa holder is no longer eligible, the State Department stated the visa will be revoked. Those already in the United States may face deportation.

The review targets a range of potential violations, including visa overstays, criminal activity, threats to public safety, and ties to terrorist organizations.

“We review all available information as part of our vetting process, including law enforcement or immigration records, or any other details that emerge after a visa is issued which may suggest ineligibility,” the department said.
