Education Officer Sacked in Bauchi for Sexual Harassment

The Bauchi State Civil Service Commission has dismissed Mr. Emos Joshua, a Principal Assistant Education Officer at Government College, Azare, over a case of sexual harassment.

According to a statement by the Commission’s spokesperson, Saleh Umar, the dismissal was approved during the Commission’s 32nd plenary session held on September 11, 2025. The Commission stated that Mr. Joshua’s actions amounted to serious misconduct, violating Rules 0327 (xxviii and xxix) of the Bauchi State Public Service Rules.

“The disciplinary action followed the exhaustion of all general disciplinary procedures, in accordance with Rule 0317 of the Public Service Rules,” the statement said.

In the same session, the Commission approved the promotion of two Deputy Directors to acting Directors of Physical Planning and Development Control at Grade Level 16. Additionally, a Chief Physical Planning Officer was elevated to acting Deputy Director on Grade Level 15.

The Commission also approved the promotion of 80 Nursing Officers and Nursing Superintendents to their next grade levels, ranging from Level 10 to 14. These decisions were based on recommendations from the State Special School Management Board, the State Public Procurement and Physical Development Board, and the Health Management Board.

Chairman of the Commission, Ibrahim Muhammad, affirmed that due process was followed in Mr. Joshua’s case, emphasizing that the dismissal was not punitive but aimed at maintaining discipline and integrity within the public service.

“This action serves as a clear reminder to all civil servants that professional conduct and adherence to the rules are essential for an effective and accountable service,” he stated.
