At least 15 people have been killed following a clash between suspected bandits and community guards in Falele village, Daddara district of Jibia Local Government Area in Katsina State.
The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, when armed bandits invaded the community, sparking a gunfight with local vigilantes.
Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasir Mua’zu, confirmed the attack in a statement, noting that the violence affected both Falele and Kadobe villages.
According to him, the confrontation began when vigilantes engaged a group of repentant bandits, resulting in the death of three individuals. This, he said, triggered a retaliatory attack that led to further casualties, bringing the death toll to 15.
He added that security operatives, including the police, Department of State Services (DSS), Civilian Watch, and community leaders, swiftly intervened to restore order and stabilise the affected areas.
Mua’zu said the coordinated response helped prevent additional loss of life and underscored the importance of collaboration between security agencies and local communities.
He urged residents to remain calm and allow authorities to carry out a full investigation, assuring that efforts are underway to ensure justice and prevent a recurrence.
The commissioner reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to protecting lives and property, stressing that maintaining peace in Katsina remains a top priority.
He also called on residents to report suspicious activities, noting that community cooperation is essential to sustaining security across the state.
