Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Napoli’s star striker, Victor Osimhen, is optimistic about the team’s chances of winning the title at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Although Nigeria last clinched the continental championship in South Africa in 2013, the three-time champions faced an early exit in the Round of 16 two years ago against Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles.
Expressing confidence in the team’s capabilities, Osimhen believes the Super Eagles possess the necessary quality to secure victory in the upcoming tournament. Speaking at a dinner held to celebrate his recognition as Africa’s best player at the team’s training base in Abu Dhabi on Friday night, the 25-year-old emphasized the goal of winning the competition in Ivory Coast.
“The most important thing for us now is to go to Ivory Coast and win the tournament,” Osimhen declared. “I believe in this group; we have a bunch of talented players to execute the job. Fingers crossed, and we are going to do so well.”
Osimhen, who was the top scorer in the AFCON 2023 qualifiers with 10 goals, is determined to lead the Super Eagles to success. The team is set to face hosts Cote d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau in Group A.
