The final group of worshippers abducted from First ECWA Aiyetoro Kiri in Kogi State has been released, bringing an end to a prolonged and distressing ordeal.
The worshippers were kidnapped on December 14, 2025, when bandits attacked the church during a service. In a statement issued on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, the Aiyetoro Kiri Bunu Development Association (AKBDA) said the releases followed weeks of intense negotiations, repeated appeals, and substantial financial contributions from the community, families, and sympathizers.
According to the association, the first seven abductees were freed on January 1, 2026. Despite the heavy emotional and financial toll, negotiations continued, resulting in the release of three additional victims on January 12, 2026, and 14 more the following day.
The remaining six abducted worshippers were released recently, completing the rescue process.
AKBDA described the effort to secure the freedom of all those kidnapped as one that required “enormous resources” and unwavering determination, noting that the successful outcome reflected perseverance, collective sacrifice, and faith.
The association expressed profound gratitude to God, the affected families, community members, friends, and supporters who stood by Aiyetoro Kiri during what it described as one of its darkest periods. It also commended media organizations for their sustained coverage and advocacy.
AKBDA concluded by offering prayers for lasting peace and security in Aiyetoro Kiri and Bunu land, expressing hope that such an incident would never recur.
