Bola Ahmed Tinubu has inaugurated the newly completed Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge in Lagos, describing it as a marker of progress and a driver of economic growth in the nation’s commercial centre.
The 5.04-kilometre corridor, first conceived during Tinubu’s tenure as Lagos governor in 2002, was completed under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. It was unveiled alongside other key projects during the president’s working visit to the state.
Speaking at the ceremony, Tinubu said Lagos continues to lead in infrastructure and urban development. He described the bridge as more than a physical structure, calling it a pathway to opportunity, and noted that efficient transportation in a city like Lagos is closely tied to economic productivity.
He added that smoother traffic flow would enhance business activities, improve livelihoods, and reflect a broader commitment to people-focused governance.
Represented by Godswill Akpabio, the president also commissioned the Lagos State Geographic Information System building and a multi-agency administrative complex in Alausa, Ikeja. The facility was named the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administrative Complex (BATAC) in recognition of his contributions to the state’s development.
Tinubu highlighted that the LAGIS building signals a move toward transparent, technology-driven land administration, aligning with his Renewed Hope Agenda on digital governance and economic expansion.
Governor Sanwo-Olu described the projects as strategic investments aimed at improving mobility, governance efficiency, and public service delivery. He said the Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge would ease congestion along major routes such as Ikeja, Maryland, and Ojota, while featuring pedestrian walkways, bicycle lanes, solar-powered streetlights, and improved drainage systems to tackle flooding.
He also noted that the LAGIS facility would streamline land processes, cut bureaucracy, and strengthen property rights, while the administrative complex would improve coordination among government agencies. According to him, the projects reflect a forward-looking approach, with infrastructure development remaining key to enhancing residents’ quality of life.
Tinubu urged other states to follow Lagos’ example, stressing that consistent investment in infrastructure and innovation is vital for national growth, adding that Lagos continues to set the standard for progress in Nigeria.
