Eze Gabriel, a member of the Enugu State House of Assembly representing the Isi-Uzo constituency, has officially defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Eze, who was elected on the LP platform during the 2023 general elections, made the announcement during a plenary session on Tuesday, April 8.

The Speaker of the House, Uche Ugwu, read Eze’s defection letter on the floor. In the letter, Eze explained that while his decision to leave the Labour Party was a difficult one, it was necessary due to the “irreconcilable divisions” and ongoing crises within the party at both national and state levels.

Eze expressed disappointment that the LP, once seen as a beacon of progressive ideals and hope, had become plagued by internal discord, hindering its ability to meet the expectations of voters. He highlighted the ongoing leadership struggle between Julius Abure and Nenadi Usman at the national level, as well as the rift between Kingsley Ugwu and Casmir Agbo in Enugu State, as examples of the party’s growing disunity.

He conveyed hope that his move to the PDP would provide a more stable and supportive platform for him to continue contributing to the development of Enugu State. Eze also thanked his supporters for their understanding and unwavering support.
