Former House of Representatives member Dachung Bagos has strongly condemned the Federal Government’s decision to appoint Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as Kwam 1, as an ambassador for airport security protocols, describing the move as a harmful precedent.
Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Thursday, Bagos said the appointment sends the wrong message to the public. “With all the drama, now he is an ambassador, meaning everybody will start moving with the flask, doing drama to become an ambassador,” he remarked. “No matter the explanation, the perception among Nigerians is that this decision is entirely wrong.”
Bagos also criticized the potential consideration of Ibom Air passenger Comfort Emmanson for a similar ambassadorial role, despite her aggressive behavior at a Lagos airport. He warned that rewarding such conduct could encourage further disorderly acts on flights. “I’m waiting to see Yahoo boys being arrested by EFCC made ambassadors… I’ve not even seen justice for people killed in Plateau. What does the law say when you break these rules?” he questioned.
He urged the government to prioritize passenger education and a review of airport security procedures, highlighting that many travelers do not understand the reasons behind switching devices to flight mode. Bagos also questioned how Kwam 1’s liquid-filled bottle passed security checks, noting that it violated standard regulations.
The Federal Government announced Kwam 1’s appointment as airport security protocol ambassador on Wednesday, following a controversial incident involving the musician at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on August 5, 2025. The move sparked widespread criticism, especially given comparisons to the Emmanson case, where the passenger allegedly assaulted a flight attendant and confronted security personnel on an Ibom Air flight.
Emmanson was arraigned and briefly held at Kirikiri Correctional Centre but later had all charges dropped after public outcry, and the airline lifted a lifetime no-fly ban initially imposed on her.
