Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has opened up about the profound personal pain he has carried since losing his wife, Patience Umo Eno, describing it as his most painful regret since assuming office.

Patience Eno passed away on September 26, 2024, after a brief illness. Her death has left a significant void in the governor’s life, one that continues to affect him deeply both personally and in his public duties.

In an emotional interview with Arise TV, Governor Eno reflected on his tenure, sharing a balance between the achievements that have brought him fulfillment and the private grief that weighs heavily on him. He emphasized that beyond the policies and infrastructure projects, his proudest accomplishment has been the strong emotional connection he has built with the people of Akwa Ibom.

“My administration’s priority has been to make a real, tangible difference in the lives of ordinary citizens, especially those in rural communities,” Eno stated.

Highlighting key initiatives, the governor said,

“Two projects stand out for me. We launched the Arise Compassionate Homes for indigent people. You should see where these people lived before—now they have a place to call home. We are building 500 such homes across the state, one in every ward, and so far, we have completed 267.”

While recounting these milestones, Eno became visibly emotional as he spoke about his late wife. Reflecting on his deepest regret, he confessed,

“It’s painful. I wish she was here with me right now. Sometimes it’s tough.”

Governor Eno described losing his life partner while serving as governor as a heavy burden that has tested his strength, yet he remains committed to his responsibilities and to the people of Akwa Ibom.
