A staff member of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo, identified as Pastor Ayodeji Akesinro, has been abducted by gunmen in Ondo State.
According to reports, Akesinro was taken from his residence in Upenme, Owo Local Government Area, at about 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 28.
Confirming the incident, a senior official of the National Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP), who spoke under condition of anonymity, said the abduction has already been reported to security agencies.
In a message circulated among union members, the official expressed shock over the development and hinted that the union may consider a protest if urgent steps are not taken to secure Akesinro’s release.
“I am writing to bring to your attention the distressing news of the kidnapping of our colleague and member, Pastor Akesinro, from his home in Upenme, Owo LGA, on the evening of August 28, 2025,” the message read.
“As a union, we have always advocated for the welfare and security of our members. In light of this, NUAHP members may declare a day of protest in Owo to demand his immediate and safe release.”
Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, also confirmed the abduction. He stated that security operatives, in collaboration with other agencies, have launched a search-and-rescue operation in the surrounding forests.
“Our men are currently combing the bush alongside other sister security agencies to rescue the victim,” Lawal said. “We are fully committed to ensuring the safety of all citizens in the state. Community engagement and joint policing efforts are ongoing to ensure residents can sleep with both eyes closed.”
Efforts to locate and rescue Pastor Akesinro are still underway.
