Gunmen suspected to be political thugs have reportedly killed Kolade Eluyera, son of the Accord Party Women Leader in Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State.
The spokesperson of the Osun State Police Command, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the incident, stating that Kolade’s lifeless body was discovered in Ikire with gunshot wounds.
According to Ojelabi, investigations are ongoing, while the Commissioner of Police has deployed additional officers to the area.
“We are working with those who brought the corpse to obtain more information,” he said.
Reacting to the incident, Olajengbesi alleged that several complaints, security reports, and intelligence warnings had earlier been submitted to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Ikire and the Office of the Area Commander over alleged cases of kidnapping, intimidation, harassment, and attacks against Accord Party members in Irewole Local Government.
He claimed that no visible preventive action was taken by security agencies before the violence escalated into loss of life.
“What is unfolding in Osun State is becoming dangerously alarming and poses a serious threat to constitutional democracy, public peace, and political freedom,” he said.
Olajengbesi also expressed condolences to the family of the deceased, the leadership of the Accord Party, and others affected by the incident.
He further accused security agencies of maintaining silence and responding slowly despite repeated reports of politically motivated violence, saying the situation had raised concerns among residents and political stakeholders.
Speaking on the political climate in the state, he stated that the Osun APC’s frustration stemmed from what he described as the party’s inability to present a convincing alternative agenda or governance blueprint to the people.
“The people of Osun State have continued to support Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration because of its visible performance and people-oriented governance,” the statement added.
He called on the Inspector-General of Police, the Department of State Services, and other security agencies to launch an independent investigation into the killing.
