Pastor Jerry Eze, the convener of the New Season Prophetic Prayers and Declarations (NSPPD) and Lead Pastor of Streams of Joy International, has shared that he never imagined prayer alone could be a path to recognition.
Speaking on a live talk show with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Pastor Eze revealed that NSPPD wasn’t even the original name of the prayer movement—and that he once found it difficult to watch his own broadcasts.
“In fact, it wasn’t called NSPPD at first,” he said. “At some point, we asked ourselves, ‘What’s the name of this thing we’re doing?’ So we gave it a name. I didn’t know people could become famous just by praying. I truly didn’t know.”
He also reflected on the contrast between his public and private personas.
“Anyone who knows me personally knows that the man shouting every morning on NSPPD isn’t who I am off-camera. I’m naturally calm and quiet. I rarely speak unless necessary, and I’m very careful with my words. That’s why people who meet me in person often struggle to reconcile the two versions.”
Pastor Eze admitted that the intensity of the broadcasts once made him uncomfortable.
“I couldn’t even watch myself after an NSPPD session. I’d keep thinking, ‘Take it easy.’ But every time I show up, there’s something greater that takes over and pushes me.”
He concluded with a simple but powerful motivation: “I just love to see people smile. I love seeing people free.”
