Former Spain and Barcelona defender, Gerard Piqué, has stated that he is not interested in running for the presidency of FC Barcelona.
Despite previously expressing ambition to challenge for the role, Piqué has now revealed that he has decided against pursuing the position.
In a recent conversation on Iker Casillas’ podcast, Piqué explained that he reconsidered his plans after reflecting on the demands of the role.
“After being asked so many times, you eventually start to evaluate it,” Piqué shared.
“Being president of Barça involves much more sacrifice than the positive things it can bring you. If you look at the past presidents, the sacrifices they’ve made far outweigh any benefits.”
He continued, “I don’t need what being president of Barça would give me. However, if one day I see the club truly needs people like me—those who have been with it since a young age, who feel the colors, understand what the club is all about, and know what the fans want—I will take the responsibility. Barça has given me everything, and if it ever needs me, I will be there.”
