Kano Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA) intercepted a truck transporting over 4,600 bottles of alcoholic drinks, as revealed by the agency’s Public Relations Officer, Nabilusi Abubakar, in a statement issued on Monday, December 11, 2023.

According to Abubakar, the truck, bearing registration number FGG 407 XB, was seized along Ibrahim Taiwo Road around 4 am on Sunday by agency officers. Upon spotting the officers, the driver abandoned the truck and fled.

KAROTA Managing Director, Faisal Kabir, emphasized, “Once the investigation is completed, we will hand them (the drinks) over to Hisbah Board for necessary action.”

Kabir urged the public to support the agency in fulfilling its mandate to safeguard the state. It is noteworthy that the Kano State government has prohibited the consumption of beer throughout the state. Consequently, Hisbah, a religious police force in the state, is authorized to confiscate and dispose of alcoholic beverage bottles in accordance with Sharia law.
