The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old suspected kidnapper and cattle rustler, identified as Habibu Bello.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, September 21, 2026.
According to Kiyawa, Bello was arrested on September 14 by operatives of the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad following credible intelligence.
The suspect, who is from Kunkumi Town in Makarfi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, was allegedly a member of a criminal syndicate involved in kidnapping, armed robbery and cattle rustling across Kano, Kaduna and Katsina states.
Police said investigations also led to the arrest of another suspected member of the syndicate, identified as Mudam, from Kwanar Dangora.
Kiyawa said Bello allegedly confessed to participating in several kidnapping operations, including the abduction of Hajiya Binta of Kwanar Dangora, for which a ransom of ₦20 million was allegedly paid.
He also allegedly confessed to kidnapping a household in Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State and participating in cattle rustling activities across Kano, Kaduna and Katsina states.
The command said investigations were ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate and recover their operational weapons.
In a separate operation, police operatives recovered a Cine-Camera Drone marked GT 50 at Hawan Tarau Village in Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano State on September 17.
According to the command, the drone was found lying on the ground during clearance operations, while efforts were being made to trace its source and owner.
The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the operatives for their efforts and said the command would sustain clearance operations in collaboration with neighbouring police commands to prevent criminal elements from using the state as a safe haven.
