Manchester United are reportedly gearing up for a major squad overhaul this summer, with at least 10 players set to leave. Under the guidance of the club’s new ownership and manager Ruben Amorim, the team is looking to make significant changes following another disappointing season.
According to the Manchester Evening News, the club is planning to permanently sell Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Jadon Sancho. All three players are currently out on loan after falling out of favor at Old Trafford, and the funds raised from their departures will be reinvested into signing a proven goalscorer.
Chelsea has an obligation to purchase Sancho for £20-25m, but reports suggest they could pay United £5 million in compensation to avoid completing the deal.
In addition, veteran midfielder Casemiro is set to be sold as part of efforts to raise money for new signings. Experienced players Jonny Evans and Tom Heaton are expected to announce their retirements at the end of the season, while Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof will be released.
With several attacking players on the move, the Red Devils are also reportedly looking to recruit a new winger to strengthen their squad.
Earlier this month, Amorim acknowledged that some players are already aware their time at the club is coming to an end. He emphasized the importance of honesty with players, stating, “Sometimes you stay, sometimes you have to move on. If I know how to explain it, I will do so because I like to be clear. They can take it, and while it might be hard initially, they will understand.”
In a recent interview with Gary Neville, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the owner of Ineos, discussed United’s past spending, naming six players who he believes are either “not good enough or overpaid.” The list includes Jadon Sancho, Casemiro, Antony, Rasmus Hojlund, Lisandro Martinez, and Andre Onana. Ratcliffe expressed that this summer, the club would “buy” these players for roughly £17m each, whether or not they make additional signings.
He explained, “Some are not good enough and some probably are overpaid, but for us to mold the squad that we are fully responsible for will take time. It’s a period of transformation, moving from the past to the future. There are great players in the squad, like Bruno Fernandes, who is a fantastic footballer.”
