The Minister of State for Health, Dr. Adekunle Salako, has affirmed that medical workers remain among the highest-paid professionals in Nigeria.
Salako made this statement during a working visit to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) on Monday, February 10.
He acknowledged that the “Japa” trend in the health sector is largely driven by economic challenges but expressed confidence that the situation would eventually improve. “The economic issue is broader than the health sector, but I believe the trend of ‘Japa’ will eventually be reversed,” he said.
Salako highlighted that within the country’s economic capacity, health workers are still the best-paid professionals, reflecting the government’s commitment to prioritizing the sector. “We will continue to advocate for increased healthcare funding. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has shown a clear focus on health, and there are few requests we make that he doesn’t approve. He understands the importance of health and gives it significant attention,” he added.
The minister emphasized that healthcare workers must reciprocate this support by remaining dedicated and committed to serving the people.
