A 36-year-old Nigerian national, Stanley Afaku, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for armed robbery at Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi, Ghana.
Afaku pleaded guilty to the charge and was convicted by the Sekondi Circuit Court, presided over by Her Honour Naa Amberley Akowuah.
In addition to his prison sentence, the court ordered that Afaku be deported by the Ghana Immigration Service upon completion of his term.
Afaku’s alleged accomplice, Samuel Nickson—also known as Egya Acquah—denied the robbery charge and remains in police custody. Nickson, who is already facing another robbery case, is set to appear in court on June 24, 2025.
According to Superintendent Olivia Awurabena Adiku, Head of the Public Affairs Unit in the Western Region, the robbery occurred on February 23, 2025. Afaku and Nickson reportedly held Nash Arthur, a hospital security guard, at gunpoint, tied him up with his own shirt, and stole his mobile phone.
They then proceeded to the hospital’s Out-Patient Department (OPD) pharmacy, where they stole a flat-screen television.
Afaku was arrested on June 4, 2025, in the Esiama Bafana ghetto following an intelligence-led operation. He confessed to the robbery and identified Nickson as his accomplice.
